And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth”. John 1:14

Do you remember the TV diet and nutrition series called ‘You Are What You Eat’?

The programme showed how healthy eating was key to our well-being. We all know that if someone keeps overeating more than they require, we may not be able to see the food on the inside of them but we’ll certainly be able to see the impact on their flesh! Because what’s on the inside affects the outside. This physical principle also works in the emotional realm. If we continually look at, listen to and dwell on negative things then we fill ourselves up with negativity which has an adverse affect on our feelings and emotions. It’s not uncommon to feel depressed if we regularly feed ourselves on a diet of the latest local, regional, national and global news. So if the condition of our flesh, both physical and emotional, is so dependent on what we feed on, how much more important is it that we feed well spiritually?

Jesus is the eternal Word of God. At the point of His human birth ‘the Word became flesh’. Becoming flesh (taking on a human body) allowed Jesus to live among us. He was able to reveal His glory, grace and truth to those around Him. Today, Jesus still wants to become flesh, He still wants to reveal His glory, grace and truth but how does He do that? Through you and me!

Look at what Paul says in Galatians 2:20 - “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” So how does ‘the Word become flesh’ in our lives? By feeding on the Word!

When we feed ourselves on God’s Word, that Word again becomes flesh, transforming our lives from the inside out. That’s why Paul said “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16). He is our, “Daily bread”, (Matthew 6:11), our “Bread of Life”, (John 6:35). Here are some practical ways that we can feed on the Word;

We can hear it (Romans 10:17), We can read it (Matthew 19:4),

We can study it (Ezra 7:10), We can memorise it (Psalm 119:11)

We can meditate on it (Psalm 1:2).

Jesus is the Word who became flesh. The Word is still becoming flesh in you and me. When we feed on the Word we are feeding on Jesus. It’s the best diet in the world and will completely transform your entire life, so when those around you look at you, they’ll see His glory, His grace and His truth.
