“You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” John 8:32 (NKJV)

Have you ever been on holiday and upon your return thought to yourself ‘Here we go, back to the real world’? There is something nice about the ability to have a break and get away from the normal routine of things but we also realise that living like we do when we are on holiday is not the real world.

Sometimes it appears that churches (and Christians) don’t really live in the real world. The picture of people who have it sussed and live in perpetual happiness doesn’t square with our experiences of real life.Thankfully the bible is full of real people who faced real challenges. Hebrews 11 recounts people throughout the bible who have had great victories and done amazing things through faith, it also tells us about people who have suffered all sorts of persecutions. These stories remind us that real life is simultaneously full of joy and sorrow but God is with us wherever we are. The truth that we don’t have to have everything perfectly figured out and that life is sometimes a bit messy sets us free to be ourselves.

Today remember God is with you and that through His grace you are free to be the real you – a child of God.
