"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 (TM)
I’ve watched countless TV programmes over the years where although the nature of the programme may vary, the underlying premise is the same – people wanting to escape from ‘the rat race’ to live a slower pace of life, to have a better ‘work-life balance’.
The thing about life as a believer is that we are able to choose to live as freely and lightly as we want. And that applies as much to the Chief Executive as it does to the Clerical Assistant. It’s not necessarily about getting away from the day job.
Spending time, keeping company with Jesus reveals to us that our value is found in who we are.
And it’s this that unburdens us to live a life focused on the Kingdom. In short, we can live life freely and lightly.
Why?
Because God will meet all of our needs. Because God is with us no matter what and nothing can ever separate us from Him. Because God works all things together for our good. All Things . Because God goes before us into our future, walks with us in our present and is evident in our past.
You don’t need to do it all yourself. God has already got it covered.
All you need to be is willing and open to Him.
Today open up your heart to go on an adventure with God. To follow where He leads, to walk where He walks and to do what he does. There’s no better way to live life to the full than this.
