‘God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful’. 1 Corinthians 1:27
There are times when I find myself getting tied up in knots when it comes to operating in the power of the Spirit. Although I am aware of the Lord’s goodness and grace and I understand what the Lord has provided for me, there are times I can find myself falling into negative thinking and I feel myself dwelling on unhelpful thoughts. I let doubt and fear creep in. There are times I get frustrated with myself because it is always the same types of things that I trip up on, my insecurities, questions around my identity, significance. What I realise is the enemy always wants to keep us locked in the same prison cells, playing the same stories over and over in our minds. What have I done? Why can’t I be like...? What is wrong with me? I think one of his greatest weapons is to get our eyes off what we do have and onto where we think we are lacking. This got me thinking about how important it is to recognise and use what the Lord has given us. What has he placed in our hands?
You see Jesus describes his Spirit in John 4 as living water. He talks about how out of our innermost being this living water will flow. Now we all know that for water to flow it requires movement, it means it has direction, it moves from one place to another. I believe one of the keys to finding ourselves experiencing more of Jesus in our lives will be when we start to prioritise the things that are important to Him and we allow his heart to shape our directions and goals. It’s time to activate what’s within - trust in his work- expect results! This life is not supposed to be complicated! The Lord has made it simple! We just need to simply believe!
So the challenge for me and you today is to step out and believe in what the Lord has done for you! Give away what He has done. Share it with others, speak his word, demonstrate his grace, pray with authority and believe that you will see results. As God’s people we know that we are not called to just survive but to thrive. We might not be able to meet up with people but we can still have an impact on people’s lives. We might not be able to go to other countries and share the gospel, but we can start right now with sharing what the Lord has done in us. The stories so far, his faithfulness, his protection, his healing and his provision.
For many people it just feels too offensive to believe that we can prosper and see good success in life when we simply put our trust in someone else. But that is precisely what the Lord is calling us to do. What seems foolish to man is the wisdom of God. We receive not because we are worthy but because He is! We can step out in faith not because we are faithful but because He is. Put your confidence today in what Jesus has done and what He can do through you. He wants you to be ready, to be open and to be bold. To simply believe. To start to recognise the power he has placed on the inside of us and the life that we can experience flowing through us and impacting others all around with fullness, hope and peace.
