But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name”. John 20:31

Do you have a clear sense of purpose? Are you feeling confident you’re on the right path? 2,000 years ago events unfolded that have completely reshaped the world and they were recorded so that today you can wake up with a sense of purpose, hope and confidence about your future. Look at these words in John 20. “These are written that you may believe…… and that by believing you may have life”.

Your good success today begins with your thoughts. What you think on and what you choose to believe will either bring life or death. So many people are struggling with sin or are believing that external circumstances are the cause of the stress and anxiety they are experiencing in their lives. They are blaming themselves, their partners, their boss, the economy or their health for the reason they are not experiencing joy. As a believer we can live beyond our circumstances, for John writes that, “when we believe in Jesus we can have life in his name”. Now this is where we need to have a better understanding of what the word ‘life’ means in the scriptures.

Many people believe that living is merely a physical thing. The fact that we have a pulse and can draw breath means we are alive. But actually that is not how the Bible would define living. You see if you don’t know Jesus today you may be physically alive but you are spiritually dead. You might be existing but you are not truly living. Jesus is the source of life. He is the creator of all things and from him true life flows. The life that he has for us he describes in John 10 :10 as a life of abundance. The word in Greek is Zoe, it speaks of not just a physical life but an eternal life. One that is found in knowing Jesus, the giver of life. The message translation puts it this way, “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of”. When we put our trust and confidence in Jesus and approach Him as our risen saviour, the Messiah and Son of God we will find our lives are no longer a mere existence but they have purpose and destiny.

As we meditate on who He is and what He has done for us we will uncover who we truly are and what our life with him means. We have been built not just to survive but to thrive and to co-labour with Him to see his light and life shine into the lives of those around us.

You have a purpose today. You have a calling: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them”. Ephesians 2:10

You matter to Jesus, as His workmanship or masterpiece, your value is far beyond anything you can imagine. Believe today that He is leading you into goodness and blessing, and His favour, which is on your life will unlock all the potential he has deposited in you.
