“For you are becoming progressively acquainted with and recognizing more strongly and clearly the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ…” 2 Corinthians 8:9a AMP

I often use the phrase ‘every day’s a school day’.  Do you ever feel that? You think you have everything sussed when you suddenly get a new piece of information that changes your understanding of what you’re doing. It keeps us on our toes and keeps life interesting.

How boring would it be if you met someone and after that first meeting you parted knowing everything there was to know about them? Why would you ever want to meet them again? It would be so tedious – what would you have to talk about the next time you met?

Our relationship with Christ is not a fossil set in amber – trapped in that first moment we met – inviolate, pristine but ultimately, dead. It grows, changes, evolves as we see Him at work in our lives.  Until we’ve lost someone we don’t need a Comforter, until we’ve gone through a storm we don’t realise how much we need His peace, when we have a financial need we discover He’s our Provider. God never forces this learning upon us but encourages us to find Him in every circumstance.  Then it’s a relationship that’s exciting, vibrant, alive.

As believers we have often been told the way to get to know God better is to read the Bible more, pray more, study more.  These things are helpful and point us in the right direction but the reality comes by allowing Him to have His way in our lives – to be at our side in every situation and for us to start to recognise His hand in everything. I can evidence the learning in my life in those tough times when I experienced His touch on my broken heart, my sick body, my bank balance.  That’s grace – relentless, unlimited, unconditional love that teaches us every day how much we are cared for.  As we get to know this grace-filled God our desire to learn more about Him increases exponentially and we will testify how every day has been a school day!
