He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. John 21:6
I was brought up to work hard and to equate the results I got with the effort I put in. The problem with this is that often the reason we are working hard is to try and attain some sort of worth and approval. Trying to gain this outside of the unconditional love of God will only leave us tired and exhausted. No matter how successful we may appear there will always be another level to attain or when we reach the top we're afraid of not being able to stay there.
I love the picture in this story. How the disciples after actually living with Jesus grace himself still went back to their old ways. It shows how slow at times the process can be of allowing our minds to really be renewed to the life of rest and favour God has ordained for us.
When we do things in our own strength there will always be a price to pay in our relationships, our health, our mental state. When we rest in Jesus and only respond to his voice we realise the price has already been paid. We simply now enjoy the benefits.
He calls you today to a life of trusting in his word. Listening to his voice and being led by the gentle prompting of his Spirit. Make sure you take time and give him space so that you have ears to hear. Then you too will find your nets overflowing in every area of your life!
