Life can sometimes be hectic. Today’s modern living pace can sometimes feel relentless. Communication is instant and more often we feel the need to stay on top of it and respond immediately. Demand on our lives outweighs capacity and we feel tired and weary as we head towards burnout.
Jesus spotted the warning signs in the disciples, they were so busy they didn’t even have time to eat. Our response would be to work harder. Jesus’ response is take time out and get some rest. He beckons us to do the same “Come to me all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28.
As we’ve been unpacking Psalm 23 recently, I’ve been particularly drawn to verse 2 - ‘He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters.’ It sounds lovely doesn’t it? Especially when you’re feeling tired and weary.
Today, take some time out, find a quiet place and get some rest.
